JUNGLE AND HIKING TOUR
AIJGLR

This tour starts off in the capital city of Lima. You travel to the beautiful area of Tambopata to experience the jungle, and then on to the Imperial City of Cusco. As well as seeing the classic sites, such as the famous Machu Picchu, you will also take a beautiful trek through the snowcapped mountains of the Andes, where many Quechua villages are situated. The Indians of these valleys, who still live in the traditional way, are known for their weaving skills, with each village incorporating its distinct motifs into their work. This easy trek allows us to interact with the local people. Our camping equipment and backpacks are carried by llamas and horses.

Itinerary

Day One: LIMA

You arrive into Lima and will be transferred to your hotel in the Miraflores district for an overnight stay.

Day Two: LIMA - PUERTO MALDONADO – LODGE

You fly directly from Lima to the small town of Puerto Maldonaldo. Transfer from the Airport in Puerto Maldonado to the lodge. After lunch, hopefully, we will see the Red-Bellied Macaws returning to the forest for the night. We return to the lodge for dinner. Afterwards, we board our canoes for a night-time search for Black Caiman. On a clear night, we can sail around the Lake and look at the stars.

Day Three: LODGE

A pre-dawn wake-up call allows us to be on the lake for sunrise and a hopeful encounter with a family of Giant Otters which frequent the lake and are most active at this time of day. Most of the fish-eating birds actively fish in the early morning as well. If we are lucky we should get some excellent views of the pre-historic looking Hoatzins too. We return to the lodge for a late breakfast and then set off on a jungle walk to see some towering Brazil Nut trees and a demonstration of how our hosts collect and process this important product. After lunch, we board the Catamaran to explore the eastern part of the lake where we may see one or more of the five species of Monkey to inhabit this area, e.g. the Brown Capuchin Monkey. After dinner we have a final chance to spot some Caiman on the lake or to take a moonlit jungle walk.

Day Four: LODGE – PUERTO MALDONADO - CUSCO

After breakfast we have a final short paddle on the west end of the lake to try and glimpse the giant Otters before returning to the Airport at Puerto Maldonado for your flight to Cusco. This afternoon you will be having a private, guided tour of this magical city (Cathedral, Koricancha, the Inka Museum, San Blas, etc.)

An acclimatization day to prepare for your four day trek. You will be taking a walking tour of the four ruins closest to the city of Cusco - a private, guided tour of the Sacsayhuaman Archaeological Park (Sacsayhuaman, Q’enko, Puca Pucara & Tambo Machay). You will be picked up from your hotel and dropped off in Tambo Machay. From here you will visit the four ruins above Cuzco and then descend to your hotel on foot. The tour lasts for approximately 4 hours and you will have the rest of the day at leisure.
