CHOQUEQUIRAO
TCQST
A rugged, remote trek which leads you through a diversity of climates to reach the archaeological complex of Choquequirao - stronghold of Manco Inca. Legend has it that the Inca rebelled against the Spaniards and taking all the gold and treasure that he could lay his hands on, set off into the jungle to found a new nation. The rough terrain makes this a physically challenging but rewarding trek. When you reach the site of Choquequirao (3080m), with its impressive views of the Cordillera Vilcabamba, the recently discovered terraces, the depths of the Apurimac canyon you will feel that you have reached a land that has everything to offer…
Itinerary
Day 1 CUSCO - CACHORA - CHIQUISCA
We have an early start by bus to Cachora, passing by the towns of
Izcuchaca and Limatambo. We cross the Apurimac River at
Cunyac, the limit of the regions of Cusco and Apurimac. We stop
for a short visit to the Stone of Saywite, then we continue
to Cachora.
After meeting our horse and driver team, we start our hike towards
Wayna Qalli (viewpoint) where we can spot Choquequirao in the distance,
as well as the mountains of the Cordillera Vilcabamba. We then start a
long descent to the valley to Capuliyoc. The terrain and vegetation
changes dramatically as we reach our campsite.
