This short tour gives you a chance to view the Peruvian landscape as you travel between Lima and Huaraz. In Huaraz you will have two days of exploring and enjoying the scenery, as well as guided tours to the site of Chavin and the Llanganuco Lakes.

Itinerary

Day One: LIMA - HUARAZ

This morning you will travel by local bus from Lima to Huaraz. This is a 7 hour ride and gives you a good opportunity to view the scenery. Transfer to your hotel.

Day Two: HUARAZ – CHAVIN - HUARAZ

A day tour to the site of Chavin de Huantar. The Chavin Culture is the oldest, major culture in Peru (1300 - 400 BC). The ruins at Chavin de Huantar consist of a large main square which has a staircase leading into the “Castillo”. This is a three-storey, 13 metre high building which houses many chambers and tunnels – many of them underground. There are no windows or doors (other than the main entrance) but the whole complex was so well-designed that there is virtually no mustiness. A 4 metre high stone dagger can be found in the heart of the building.

Day Three: HUARAZ – LLANGANUCO LAKES & CARAZ

Pick up from your hotel to start your tour to the beautiful twin lakes of Llanganuco, passing by the covered city of Yungay. This city was covered by an avalanche in 1970 after a strong earthquake on the 31st of May. After visiting the lakes, you descend down to the new town of Yungay, from where you continue on to Caraz, where you will have lunch in a local restaurant. You will also have an opportunity to visit the local markets before returning to Huaraz for the evening.

Day Four: HUARAZ – OUT

Transfer from your hotel to the bus station. You return to Lima by bus.
