A rugged, remote trek which leads you through a diversity of climates to reach the archaeological complex of Choquequirao - stronghold of Manco Inca. Legend has it that the Inca rebelled against the Spaniards and taking all the gold and treasure that he could lay his hands on, set off into the jungle to found a new nation. The rough terrain makes this a physically challenging but rewarding trek. When you reach the site of Choquequirao (3080m), with its impressive views of the Cordillera Vilcabamba, the recently discovered terraces, the depths of the Apurimac canyon you will feel that you have reached a land that has everything to offer…



  • Day 1 CUSCO - CACHORA - CHIQUISCA

    We have an early start by bus to Cachora, passing by the towns of Izcuchaca and Limatambo. We cross the Apurimac River at Cunyac, the limit of the regions of Cusco and Apurimac. We stop for a short visit to the Stone of Saywite, then we continue to Cachora.
    After meeting our horse and driver team, we start our hike towards Wayna Qalli (viewpoint) where we can spot Choquequirao in the distance, as well as the mountains of the Cordillera Vilcabamba. We then start a long descent to the valley to Capuliyoc. The terrain and vegetation changes dramatically as we reach our campsite. Accommodation Tents Meals L, D

    Day 2 CHIQUISCA - MARANPATA

    We have an early start today as well, especially to avoid the heat while climbing up to Santa Rosa. There we will meet a family who distills alcohol out of sugar canes. We continue climbing to Maranpata, and along the way we will see some orchids and, if we are lucky, we can spot some condors or foxes and surely many species of birds.Accommodation Tents Meals B, L, D

    Day 3 MARANPATA - CHOQUEQUIRAO

    After our breakfast we start the hike to the archaeological site, where we will arrive in about 45 minutes. Then we have all day to explore and visit the complex. Our camp will be set near the site.Accommodation Tents Meals B, L, D

    Day 4 CHOQUEQUIRAO - CHIQUISCA

    Today we leave the site by the same way we entered. We have a long descent to Santa Rosa, where we stop for lunch before we continue to the Apurimac River and our campsite in Chiquisca.Accommodation Tents Meals B, L, D

    Day 5 CHIQUISCA - CACHORA - CUSCO

    Our last day of hiking, we have a long climb to get back to Cachora, where our transportation awaits to take us back to Cusco. Meals B, L
